How Hosting Renewal Prices Work

Understand introductory pricing, renewal invoices and how long commitments change your total cost.

An introductory hosting price may apply only to the first billing term. Renewal can use a different rate and may include changes to add-ons, domain registration and taxes. The largest coupon is not necessarily the lowest long-term cost.

Record two totals

Before purchasing, note the amount due now and the amount expected at renewal. If the provider displays a monthly equivalent for a multi-year plan, calculate the full upfront charge. Compare providers over the same ownership period.

Separate products

A domain, email service, backup package or security add-on can have its own billing schedule. A first-year inclusion may become a paid renewal. Check the basket for optional services before paying.

Check renewal and cancellation rules

Read when renewal is charged, how reminders are sent and how to disable automatic renewal. Cancellation may end a service immediately or at the end of its term. Keep an independent backup before making account changes.

Avoid assumptions about future offers

A code for new customers may not work on renewal. Do not create a duplicate account to circumvent terms. Ask the provider whether a renewal discount or plan change is available, and confirm the answer in writing before relying on it.
